Limp With Pocket Aces
In your poker experience, maybe you already have encountered this kind of strategy. You can also see this discussed on online poker forums and websites.
Your the first player to act and you had a pocket of Aces. You just call the blind and you will wait for the other players to make action after you. This action is made in the assumption that someone in the others will raise.
If its your turn again, re-raise the bet from the other player and you’ll get the money in the pot before the flop is displayed if your opponents hole cards is a pair of Jack or other hole cards lower than a pocket aces.
So what will you do if you limp on your pair of Aces but still got 2 callers plus the blinds in the pot?
Well, you’re still the first one to act and the most appropriate thing to do is to lead out a not so big pot sized bet. If you get a caller or two then its time for you to fold. This is because it is hard to win with pocket of aces against 2 or 4 random hands.
Its hard to fold aces especially if the flop was ragged. But you have to remember that so far you only bet for the Big blind and wouldn’t really hurt your pocket.
There’s no need to go on playing and reduce your bankroll once again because the probability that the other players who called have made a nice pair with the ragged cards or a big draw is against you.
Although there would be a player who has an open ended card and waiting for the right draw to have a monster straight or flush chance, its not worth the risks.
If you encounter this kind of situation, don’t be afraid to fold your Aces, you still have another round to play and its worth waiting for the right opportunity than wasting your bankroll into something worthless.
